about

Alex: “Sex-Starved Trailer Trash” by Johnny & Faith (posted on the June 24-26, 2010 IF thread) has a groove as enticing as its title and I could not resist my impulse to lay down a vocal track immediately after hearing it. I started to record a few seconds late and thus in the final mix down the vocals are moved forward. It sounded interesting to me so I left it that way.
Johnny & Faith: …it was created, as most of our improv pieces are, by throwing in a bunch of sounds from a bunch of different folders, creating a huge messy block of noise. We then take the advice of the great Bruce Lee and “hack away at the unessential.”

Singer Alexandra Marculewicz Adshead blends composed structures with improvised experimental and traditional vocal techniques creating music that is heavily processed yet emotionally direct. The emotive quality of her music is equally inspired by both the natural and supernatural world and realized simply through the simple combination of a Powerbook and a microphone. Her globe trekking resume includes fronting two popular touring rock bands based in the Czech Republic, composing and performing musical accompaniment for dance companies in New York City, and most recently performing solo and with collaborators in her current home Houston, Texas.

LifePartners Johnny & Faith comb the shaggy Appalachian hills and hollows, raking up foundsound and field graze which they then mangle with a vintage Ensoniq ASR-10, one of the coolest sampler/sequencer workstations ever devised. Further pureeing is accomplished inside an old Gateway computer by means of various software, most notably Granulab, SoundPlant, Cubase & Audacity. J&F currently reside with their crazed chocolate Dalmatian Tybo and toothless stray Lab Moses in a dainty house alongside a Christmas tree farm. Life is good ;-)
